Upcoming Event: January School Closures

Date/Time: January 18 & 19
Who it impacts: All Students
Overview: Again, this is just a reminder that we will be closed for the first two days next week (the 18th for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and the 19th for Pastors and Teachers professional growth meetings in College Place). While we have not made any provision for the first day, are providing childcare at a rate of $25 for the 19th. If you choose to use our childcare, your child will enjoy crafts, games and activities to help the day pass more quickly. As we did before, we are offering a small discount to families with multiple children in the program. The second and subsequent children will be able to attend for $23. Please contact the office if you would like to sign up for this program as it is offered by reservation only.

Upcoming Event: A Taste of the Orient
Date/Time: January 24 – 5:00pm
Who it impacts: 9th grade and up... as well as all constituents
Overview: The 9th and 10th grade students who are planning on taking part in the mission trip to Rosario Tesopaco, Mexico this March are selling tickets for their fundraising dinner coming up in two weeks (January 24). Don’t miss out on this meal put on by Tony and Lynwyn Salango, from Calgary Alberta, who will be coming to our school to cater this event. The menu features a variety of traditional Asian dishes and a few of his own concoctions such as vegetarian ginger beef (gluten) and butternut squash in coconut milk. The meal is a bargain at $18 per adult or $10 per child (10 and under), and includes dinner entertainment. IF none of our students have contacted you to purchase tickets, and you are interested in attending, contact the office to reserve your seat. There are a limited number of meal tickets available.

Upcoming Event: Parent/Teacher Meetings
Date/Time: January 27 & 28 – both afternoons
Who it impacts: All Students
Overview: Please ask your child about parent / teacher conference appointment letters. We arrange meetings, attempting to give parents their choice times, in the order that we receive the requests back in the office.

Other Information Worthy of Note:

It’s Not My Money…
At least four times this year, students have brought found money into the office. I am so pleased at the honesty that prompts a child to bring in cash that he or she finds on the school grounds. On three occasions, the money has been claimed, but most recently, money brought in just before Christmas has gone unclaimed. I suppose this is an opportunity to see how well students read the newsletter. I am choosing, therefore, to inform the student who brought in found money the month before Christmas break, that the money is yours if you come in to claim it. Thank-you all for your honesty.

Make Sure All Back Work Is In...
This is the last week to get in work from the second quarter. Make sure that all of your work is caught up. High School students especially need to note that this Friday the door will close on all first semester subjects.

Ski Club – One Door Closes, but Another Door Opens...
Due to a lack of interest, the ski club hasn’t really gotten off the ground this year. Several students had expressed an interest initially, and the plan made it past the staff, however, only one student showed up at the formation meeting, so we have put this club on hold for this school year. Perhaps we could look to planning for next year. Meanwhile, we do have an invitation for students who might like to take part in the Ski the Summit weekend at Bozeman, Montana (Mt Ellis Academy), February 21-24. Deadline to apply for this event is February 1. Contact Mr. Oucharek for more information.
