Welcome to the 2nd Semester

TCJA TIMES
January 20, 2010 – Newsletter

We hope you enjoyed the mid-January break. The teachers and pastors spent yesterday in Walla Walla at a training session with pastor Shane Alexander, author of How to Kill Adventist Education: And How to Give it a Fighting Chance. We were inspired as we were reminded of the legacy and the importance of Adventist education.

I apologize for the late issue of this newsletter. I, too, was out of the office the past two days and the break has been rejuvenating.

Upcoming Event: A Taste of the Orient
Date/Time: January 24 – 5:00pm
Who it impacts: 9th grade and up... as well as all constituents
Overview: We are nearly out of tickets, as we have limited the number of participants, but there are still a few spots left. If you have not been contacted by a 9th or 10th grade student who is selling tickets to this event, and if you would like to attend, please contact the office to reserve your seats. Tickets are selling for $18 per adult or $10 per child (10 and under). Funds go to help students reach their goal so that they can participate in a mission trip outing to Rosario Tesopaco, Mexico, this March. The meal is being catered by Tony and Lynwyn Salango, from Calgary, Alberta (parents of TCJA alumus, Kamia Salango). The menu features a variety of traditional Asian dishes and a few of Tony's own concoctions such as vegetarian ginger beef (gluten) and butternut squash in coconut milk. Dinner entertainment will be provided by several local musicians.

Upcoming Event: Parent/Teacher Meetings
Date/Time: January 27 & 28 – both afternoons
Who it impacts: All Students
Overview: You should have already received and returned conference appointment letters. If your child did not bring a letter home, if you misplaced your letter, or if you forgot to send an appointment response and you would like to do so, please contact the office and Ms. Hibbs will put you on the master appointment calendar. Please note that school lets out at 12:30pm both of these days. Daycare is provided at the regular fee from the time school lets out until 6:00pm.

Upcoming Event: Calendar Change
Date/Time: February 22
Who it impacts: All Students
Overview: The calendar has us taking the day off on February 22 for teacher inservice (professional development). In the last month, our conference arranged the event we attended on January 19th, so we have switched these two days out. That means that we will be in school in February 22. Please change your calendar accordingly. If parents have already made arrangements to take their child(ren) out for the day and those arrangements cannot be changed, we need them to contact the office to have the day excused. Otherwise, we are expecting all students to be in class on this day. We try to set our calendar a year in advance, and when changes like this need to occur, we are grateful for the understanding and the flexibility of our school families.
