Early November Update

Issue 3 November 11, 2010

Program Honoring Veterans and Grandparents
Earlier today, our ninth and tenth grade students and a handful of adults served breakfast to more than 300 people. After that, we had a special program, at the end of which Paul Daniel led 28 veterans around our flagpole. 4 senior veterans were hand-picked to raise our flag as the rest of the morning’s attendee’s looked on. One of the people at the program said, “As I stood there watching them all snap to attention or salute while the flag was going up, I was wondering how different their memories are from mine.”
Programs like this serve to heighten our awareness of what it takes to live in a free nation. Thank-you veterans, for all that you gave. Thank-you grandparents for all that you continue to give.
Picture Retakes
In the printed calendar you may notice that retakes are set for this coming Wednesday. We want to remind you that this date is changed, and retakes will be on Friday, the 19th. The photographers will be starting at 9:00am. Whenever we run into schedule conflicts, always look at the online calendar (at the TCJA webpage) as the final word. A parent volunteer, Brenda Smith, spent several hours getting that up and running for us, and we will be watching it closely so as to better keep you informed about what’s going on at our school.
Webpage / Grading Program… check it out…
Less than 40% of our parents have logged in to see their children’s grades. Call us to find out how to log in, if you are one of the more than 60%...
Also, our newsletter, calendar, handbook, webpage – all are online. Start at http://tcja.org and follow the links.
Diapers
Did you know that 1 in 3 mothers do not have the means to adequately diaper their child? Research shows that some mothers are forced to choose between buying diapers and heating their homes or buying food. The nearest diaper bank is in Spokane, WA, so the Riverview SDA church has decided to set up a diaper bank here in the Tri-Cities. Our first annual diaper drive will be held during the week of December 6 – 10. Send diapers with your child to school during this week… any size and/or brand will be fine. If you don’t have time to go shopping, just make your check payable to Riverview SDA Church with diaper drive in the memo line. Classes will be competing in this drive. For more information, ask a teacher.

Open Communication

Program Honoring Veterans and Grandparents

Veterans Day, November 11, will see our staff arriving early to prepare a breakfast for all students and their parents. We are also inviting grandparents and local veterans to come and eat with us. We start serving at 7:00am. We will stop serving at 7:45am and by 8:00am we will be presenting a short program in honor of our guests. We anticipate concluding the morning activities between 8:30 and 8:45, so please plan to come out and support those we wish to honor.

Webpage / Grading Program… Running

Our Webpage is up and running. We have gone over to a new server at Adventist Schools Connect. The new URL is http://tricity24.adventistschoolconnect.org, however, if you don’t mind the extra click, you can always go to http://tcja.org and access the new webpage by following the link found on that page.

Along with the new webpage, we have also gone to a new grading program. Parents need to contact the school for their one-time access code. This code can be used to set up access the way you would like it. Please contact the office if you have not been able to log onto the grade manager, and you would like to (and have a right to) do so. We will walk you through setting up.

Upcoming Musical Concert

Our middle and high school musical groups (advanced band, choir, and bells) will be performing in a Fall concert at the TCJA gym on November 18 at 7:00pm. While a freewill offering will be taken to help offset the extra expenses of running these programs, there is no fee to attend so come on out to support the school groups. Besides our being gifted with music, we will also have the opportunity to mingle following the program as we enjoy some light refreshments. It doesn’t get much better than this, folks.

Athletics

The soccer team’s season is officially over, and now the volleyball and flag football are about to expire as well. Each of these two teams still have a few games left in their seasons, however. Check the calendar at the TCJA website to stay on top of all games and activities happening at the school.

Thanksgiving Break

This is just to remind you that the school will be closed for the entire week during Thanksgiving (Nov. 22 – Nov. 26).
