and it's February...

Salsa Cook-off (High School)

High school students are invited to participate in the Riverview High School-aged Youth Sabbath school class’s first annual Salsa Cook-off. Entrance to the party is gained by bringing a bowl of homemade salsa, and a bag of chips for dipping. The Riverview Sabbath School teachers will be providing the chili, rice and salads to round out the meal.

We will be eating, playing some games and just generally having a good time. To round out the evening, we will finish with a vespers service at about 8:30. Again, though this is hosted by Riverview Youth, it is open to high school aged young people,

Small World Learning Center – Family Night

If you have children that are registered in the Small World program, or if you know someone who might be thinking about checking out that program, come out and bring them along to the family night activity on February 8 at 6:00pm. The theme for the games and activities will be Valentine’s and the menu features Italian food. You will not be disappointed.

Overdue Library Books

Please go through your houses and look for library books that may have taken up more permanent lodgings than our library, where they belong. At the same time, we do encourage students to read. In fact, I have a Mariners baseball cap to give away to any 3rd to 5th grade boy or girl might have read a story book that has a chapter on bush babies. To claim the prize, you have to find the book, check it out, read that chapter, come in to see me (bring the book) and answer a couple of quiz questions about the chapter. I can’t wait to part with my Mariner’s hat.

Time for a Major Cleaning

Send a Walmart or other shopping or garbage bag on Friday… Teachers will be standing beside students toward the end of the day as they carry out some major locker cleaning, both in the halls and locker rooms. Between food long past its “use by” date and clothes sorely in need of laundering, our halls and locker rooms have developed characters of their own – and these are not pleasant characters.

Technology (mis)Use at School…

Parents – you pay for the techie entrapments, so please ensure their responsible use… Texting, taking calls, or Instant messaging during class time is not acceptable.

Giveaway…

I have a Boston Red Sox fitted hat to give away on Wednesday (after school) to the student who best explains the riddle of the Sphynx to me. This is not first-come, first served, but rather whoever does the best job. I also have a piece of saltwater taffy for every person who attempts the puzzle between Wednesday after school and Thursday before 8:30am.
